According to Media reports the Commission has formally asked the U.S. to eliminate or significantly lower tariffs on products made from steel and aluminium, following their joint trade agreement. The U.S. currently imposes duties of up to 50% on goods containing metal content. The EU says the broad scope of these tariffs (which extend into appliances, vehicles, etc.) is harming supply-chain efficiency in both regions.
Why this matters: Changes in tariff regimes can immediately affect cost structures, global flows of metal products (including non-ferrous), and ultimately downstream industries such as automotive and construction.
